John Denver, a singer-songwriter from Colorado who was a specialist in folk music, touched the hearts of millions. Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. was born in Roswell in New Mexico. He fell in love Colorado and moved to Aspen. Denver's state anthems have inspired numerous people to go to Colorado. G. Danoff created the track with Johnny Cash in mind but after Denver saw an early rendition immediately, he realized the song could be the next hit single. Danoff recorded the track only a few days afterward following a performance to the awe-inspiring crowd at Washington D.C.
